Loganberry Waimate
“Waimate” is a variety of Loganberry that produces long, purple red berries with an excellent flavour. In spring it produces white flowers which result in the familiar, sweet tasting berries in summer. The foliage is dark green and thornless. This deciduous shrub grows with multiple stems to about 1.5 m tall and the same wide and can be trimmed as necessary. They are generally grown with a support structure to provide additional support to the canes. Best fruiting performance is achieved when planted in full sun on a well-drained, sheltered site. It is tolerant of frost but not windy or coastal environments. “Waimate” is commonly grown for fruit production or included into a mixed planting to attract birds.
