How to Gooseberry 'Invicta' in NZ

Gooseberry 'Invicta' grows best in full sun or partial shade with well-drained, fertile soil. Prepare the soil with compost or organic matter before planting, then water deeply to help establish strong roots. Space plants about 1.2–1.5 metres apart to allow good airflow and reduce disease risk. Mulch around the base to conserve moisture and suppress weeds. Regular watering during dry periods and an annual application of balanced fertiliser in spring will promote strong growth and a heavy crop of fruit.

Gooseberry 'Invicta' care tips

Prune Gooseberry 'Invicta' in winter to remove dead or crossing branches and to maintain an open shape for good airflow. Protect the fruit from birds using netting as the berries ripen. Remove weeds and apply mulch each year to retain moisture and keep roots cool. Check regularly for pests such as aphids and treat promptly if required. Feeding in spring and again after harvesting will keep plants productive and healthy.
