The Best Place to Buy Camellia Plants

When you’re considering where to buy camellia plants, it’s important to choose a nursery that provides healthy, true-to-type specimens and expert advice. As passionate plant specialists, we pride ourselves on our high standards and our selection of camellia varieties suitable for NZ gardens. Our camellias are grown right here, so you can be confident they’ll thrive at your place, from sunny Auckland to cooler Southland.

Popular Camellia Varieties

Our range includes classic and unique camellias for every setting. For those who love the early-flowering types, Camellia 'Early Pearly' is a fantastic option, boasting delicate white blooms that arrive before many other plants in the garden. If you’re seeking something truly striking, Camellia japonica 'Jurys Yellow' offers soft creamy-yellow flowers that create a stunning contrast with rich green foliage. For a softer touch, Camellia 'Fairy Blush' delivers masses of petite, pink-tipped blooms that work beautifully in borders or pots.

If dramatic colour is your goal, Camellia 'Black Lace' provides deep crimson flowers with striking, nearly black petal edges—a real conversation piece. And for those interested in traditional forms, the ever-popular Camellia 'Setsugekka' with its pure white, ruffled petals and reliable performance is an excellent choice for hedges and specimen plantings.

How to Select and Plant Camellias

Choosing the right camellia plant depends on your garden’s conditions and the look you wish to achieve. Camellias thrive in filtered sunlight or light shade, well-drained acidic soil, and require protection from strong winds. They are remarkably versatile: perfect for hedges, screens, specimen planting, or even large containers. Once planted, camellias reward gardeners with glossy, year-round foliage and spectacular winter-to-spring blooms. Visit our camellia page to explore our collection, or browse individual varieties like Camellia 'Early Pearly' and Camellia 'Fairy Blush' for more details on their characteristics and growing requirements.

It’s easy to pick Avocado 'Reed' and Ficus benjamina, but garden variety is all about adding surprises like Dysoxylum spectabile (New Zealand Mahogany), Lonicera periclymenum 'Graham Thomas', and Carex solandri.
