Why Choose Westringia Mundi Ground Cover?

Westringia 'Mundi' is renowned for forming a neat, compact mound, usually reaching just 30cm in height but often spreading out to 1.5 metres. This makes it perfect for suppressing weeds while softening garden edges or slopes. The fine, silver-green leaves provide all-year texture, while dainty white to pale blue flowers pop against the foliage from spring through autumn. Westringia 'Mundi' ground cover is also a magnet for native bees and other beneficial insects, helping to boost biodiversity in your home garden.

Planting Locations and Companions

Ideal for mass planting as a living mulch, Westringia 'Mundi' ground cover thrives in full sun to part shade, and copes well with both exposed coastal sites and dry inland gardens. It’s fantastic for stabilising banks, edging driveways, or cascading over retaining walls. For variety and contrast, consider pairing Westringia 'Mundi' with other robust native groundcovers like Leptinella traillii (Button Daisy) or the unique textures of Helichrysum petiolare (Licorice Plant). If you’re keen to create a lush tapestry effect, incorporate Vinca minor Illumination or Pimelea arenaria (Sand Pimelea) in shaded or partly shaded spots.

Care Tips for Westringia Mundi

This ground cover truly earns its reputation for being low maintenance. Once established, Westringia 'Mundi' is drought-tolerant and rarely troubled by pests or diseases. It benefits from a light prune after flowering to maintain its dense habit and prevent woodiness. Plant in well-drained soil, and water regularly during the first season to help roots settle. Mulching is always beneficial, especially when refreshing garden areas.

Other Westringia Varieties to Consider

For gardeners looking to expand their native plant palette, several other Westringia varieties offer unique shapes and colours. Westringia fruticosa is an upright shrub ideal for hedging, while Westringia Grey Box and Westringia Aussie Box both deliver neat, rounded forms that complement the sprawling nature of 'Mundi'. Add a pop of soft colour with Westringia Lilac and Lace or the pastel hues of Westringia Wynyabbie Highlight.
