Why Grow Twist and Shout Hydrangea?

The Twist and Shout Hydrangea is celebrated for its unique blooms—large, starburst-shaped flowers surround a cluster of tiny, fertile florets, creating a two-tone effect that shifts colour with your soil pH. Acidic soils yield striking blue blooms, while alkaline soils give a stunning pink. Deep green foliage and striking red stems add further interest throughout the season.

Twist and Shout Hydrangea shrubs grow to about 1.2 to 1.5 metres in both height and width, making them a compact choice for borders, containers, or as a feature plant in shady garden areas. They are incredibly hardy and low-maintenance, tolerating both sun and part shade, so they fit effortlessly into a range of landscape designs.

Planting and Care Tips for Twist and Shout Hydrangea

To enjoy the best floral display, plant your Twist and Shout Hydrangea in moist, well-drained soil with plenty of organic matter. Choose a location with morning sun and afternoon shade, especially in more exposed gardens. Mulch in spring to maintain soil moisture and suppress weeds.

Feed your Twist and Shout Hydrangea in late winter with a slow-release fertiliser to support vigorous growth. Pruning is simple—remove spent flower heads and any weak or dead stems in early spring. Thanks to its reblooming habit, even new gardeners can expect reliable results.

Companion Planting and Other Hydrangea Favourites

While the Twist and Shout Hydrangea shines as a solo performer, it pairs beautifully with other hydrangea varieties for a diverse, extended colour display. Try grouping with Hydrangea 'Peppermint' for candy-pink mopheads, or with Hydrangea Madame Plumecoq for elegant whites and lush foliage. For those who love the expressive shapes of lacecap hydrangeas, Hydrangea You Me Romance and Hydrangea 'You Me Together' offer exceptional variety in both shade and flower form. Hydrangea You Me Emotion is another excellent choice for those wanting long-lasting blooms and stylish colour shifts.
