Many varieties are surprisingly easy to care for – needing just a warm, sheltered spot and regular watering. Gardeners all over New Zealand are discovering just how rewarding it is to grow these tropical wonders, and you can too.

Our Range of Tropical Plants NZ for Sale

From cascading climbers to bold perennials and deliciously scented shrubs, our collection of tropical plants NZ for sale offers something for every plant lover and space.

For those seeking vines with flamboyant colour, Bougainvillea 'Tropical Rainbow' is a top choice. Its vibrant bracts add Mediterranean flair to walls, trellises, or pergolas, and it’s a reliable performer in frost-free gardens.

Canna lilies offer unbeatable drama in borders or pots. Canna 'Tropical Salmon' and Canna 'Tropical Yellow' both feature bold, paddle-shaped leaves and brilliant blooms that last from summer into autumn. These varieties are selected for their vigour and stunning flower colours, perfect for adding a burst of sunshine to your outdoor living space.

If you’re after a tropical shrub that delivers heady perfume, Gardenia Golden Magic won’t disappoint. This lush, evergreen specimen is prized for its glossy leaves and creamy yellow flowers with intense fragrance, thriving best in a sheltered, warm position.

For a feature shrub with vivid colour and delicate form, consider Duranta Geisha Girl (Geisha Girl Plant). Its cascading purple-blue flowers and golden berries lend a striking tropical look to any part of your garden.

Tips for Growing Tropical Plants in New Zealand

Growing tropical plants in NZ is easier than you might think. Choose a sheltered spot with good drainage, and enrich garden beds with organic compost. Most tropical plants love regular watering and thrive with mulch to keep their roots cool and moist. In cooler regions, some species benefit from frost protection or can be grown in pots and brought inside during winter. With the right selection and care, you can create a tropical paradise, no matter where you live in New Zealand.
