Why Choose The Native Plant Nursery?

Choosing the native plant nursery means cultivating success with plants that are naturally suited to New Zealand’s climate and soils. Natives are low maintenance, adaptable, and bring year-round interest to your garden. They support native birds, insects, and lizards—helping strengthen your backyard ecosystem and restoring lost connections to the land.

Explore Outstanding Groundcover Natives

Groundcovers are a staple for anyone visiting the native plant nursery. They offer lush foliage, help suppress weeds, and stabilise soils on slopes and banks. We stock prolific spreaders like Coprosma 'Poor Knights' (Taupata), a hardy, low-growing shrub with stunning glossy leaves, ideal for coastal gardens or as a shelterbelt.

For a different texture, Coprosma prostrata sprawls beautifully, excelling in difficult spots where you’d like cover but not bulk. Its small, tightly-packed leaves make it an attractive choice for rock gardens or beneath specimen trees.

You may also love Pratia angulata—its delicate white star-shaped flowers bring charm to shady corners and create a living green carpet ideal for between pavers or stepping stones.

Unusual and Hardy Options at The Native Plant Nursery

If you’re searching for something a little different, Pimelea prostrata 'Blue Peter' is a striking coastal plant, prized for its silver-blue foliage and cluster of white flowers. It thrives in exposed sites where many others may fail.

For sandy, free-draining conditions, Coprosma 'Hawera' (Sand Coprosma) is sure to impress. This prostrate form hugs the ground, tolerates drought, and provides tough, wind-resistant cover for embankments and street plantings.

Supporting Sustainable New Zealand Landscapes

One of the most rewarding aspects of sourcing from the native plant nursery is contributing to healthier, more sustainable landscapes. Our knowledgeable team can help match you with the right natives for your space, ensuring year-round performance while reducing water, fertiliser, and chemical inputs. Native options often thrive where exotics struggle, especially in NZ’s challenging coastal, alpine, and wetland environments.
