Why Choose Our Taupo Native Plant Nursery?

As Taupo natives ourselves, we understand the unique needs of Central Plateau gardens. Our nursery propagates native species proven to thrive in Taupo’s climate—frost-tolerant, wind-hardy, and suited to volcanic soils. From shelter hedges and riparian planting to compact feature shrubs, we grow natives for every purpose. Our plants are raised without shortcuts, ensuring well-rooted, vigorous specimens ready to flourish in local conditions.

Popular Native Plants for Taupo Gardens

We offer an extensive range of forms and foliage to suit all landscaping styles. A top pick is the Pittosporum Taupo (Dwarf Pittosporum)—a tidy, compact shrub perfect for hedging, borders, and containers. For striking texture and year-round colour, Libertia 'Taupo Blaze' is an eye-catching grass that adds autumnal fire to beds and edges. The richly coloured Libertia 'Taupo Sunset' pairs gorgeously with other natives in mass plantings.

Don’t overlook natives with form and foliage contrast. Coprosma repens (Mirror Plant) brings glossy, reflective leaves to Taupo gardens and handles tough sites, salt wind, and trimming with ease. For splashes of native flower colour, try Fuchsia 'Taupo'—its vibrant blooms attract native birds and bring cheerful notes to borders and understorey plantings.

We love Austrocylindropuntia vestita (Furry Cactus) and Ficus benjamina 'Variegata' as much as anyone, but part of the fun is discovering Acer palmatum 'Trompenburg', Camellia 'Tsaii', and Loropetalum 'Red Temple'.
