Unique Features of String of Turtles Peperomia

The string of turtles peperomia stands out thanks to its cascading vines covered in rounded, deep green leaves with intricate white markings. This pattern mimics the appearance of turtle shells, turning each vine into a showpiece. The plant’s gentle growth habit makes it perfect for small spaces, terrariums, or creative arrangements with other Peperomia varieties.

If you’re looking to bring home your own, our Peperomia prostrata (String of Turtles) page showcases this beautiful plant and provides details on care and availability here in New Zealand.

Caring for String of Turtles Peperomia

String of turtles peperomia thrives in bright, indirect light—think dappled forest conditions. It prefers well-draining soil and doesn’t like to be overwatered, making it a great option for busy plant parents. Allow the top layer of soil to dry out between waterings. Peperomia prostrata enjoys moderate humidity, so it fits right in with most New Zealand homes.

Regular pruning keeps the vines bushy and prevents leggy growth. As with most peperomias, string of turtles is non-toxic and pet-friendly, so it’s safe around curious cats or dogs.
