Why Choose a Small Fiddle Leaf Fig?

The small fiddle leaf fig tree offers all the beauty and drama of the classic Ficus lyrata, but in a neat package suited for urban living. Their lush, broad leaves purify indoor air and naturally increase humidity, creating a healthier environment. As an easy-care houseplant, the small fiddle leaf fig is adaptable to New Zealand’s climate, needing only bright indirect light, moderate watering, and occasional feeding. Its understated charm makes it a conversation starter, blending effortlessly with modern décor and other houseplants.

If you’re curious about other attractive indoor Ficus varieties, consider the resilient Ficus Tuffi, the bold Ficus Black Knight, or the classic Ficus benjamina. For variegated interest, Ficus benjamina variegata and Ficus benjamina 'Starlight' are eye-catching alternatives.

Placement and Care Tips

Small fiddle leaf fig trees love bright, indirect sunlight, so place yours near a window with filtered light. Rotate the tree regularly to encourage even growth and prevent leaf drop. Let the top 3-5cm of soil dry out before watering, and avoid soggy roots by using a free-draining potting mix. While Ficus lyrata appreciates humidity, New Zealand’s indoor environment is often suitable, but misting or grouping your fig with moisture-loving plants like Caladium White Lace (Caladium Plant) can provide an extra boost.

Styling Your Small Fiddle Leaf Fig

The compact nature of the small fiddle leaf fig tree makes it ideal for shelves, desks, or as a living centrepiece. Its architectural foliage pairs perfectly with more petite plants. For a vibrant display, nestle it alongside the colourful Cyclamen Snowridge Scarlet, the easy-care Sansevieria Hahnii (Bird's Nest Snake Plant), or the lush Syngonium 'Neon'. For collectors, the trailing Hoya polyneura brings a unique foliage accent to your indoor collection.
