Why Choose Silver Falls Dichondra in NZ Gardens?

Silver Falls Dichondra NZ stands out for its shimmering, metallic-grey foliage, fast growth habit, and adaptability to both sun and partial shade. It effortlessly softens the edges of retaining walls, pots, or rocky plantings. As a groundcover, its dense mat of foliage is excellent for suppressing weeds, and once established, it copes well with neglect and is highly drought-tolerant—making it a favourite for low-water gardens and tricky spots where other plants struggle.

For those wanting more details about its features and care instructions, visit our Dichondra Silver Falls product page. Here, you'll find everything you need to create show-stopping displays or lush, trailing effects in your outdoor and indoor spaces.

Planting and Care Tips

In New Zealand, Silver Falls Dichondra is ideally planted in free-draining soil, either directly in the garden or in containers and hanging baskets. Space plants about 30–50 cm apart to allow the silvery stems to spread and intertwine, creating a living carpet. Ensure they receive at least a few hours of sunlight daily, though they also grow in partial shade.

Regular watering helps new plants to establish, but once your silver falls dichondra is flourishing, it's remarkably forgiving—suited to both coastal and urban landscapes. To limit weed competition, consider using a selective herbicide such as Victory Gold - 1 Litre.

Creative Uses for Silver Falls Dichondra

You’re not limited to using Silver Falls Dichondra NZ as groundcover. It looks magical cascading from raised beds, planters, and window boxes—making it an ideal companion for contrasting foliage ferns like Athyrium Silver Falls (Japanese Fern Plant) or blending with other trailing plants.

Among similar varieties, Dichondra Emerald Falls offers a lush green alternative, while Dichondra repens provides a softer, broader-leaved groundcover option.
