The Beauty of Roses

Roses are often called the "queen of flowers" for good reason. With hundreds of varieties, from climbing to bush, old-fashioned heirlooms to modern hybrids, there’s a rose for every taste and space. Looking for a classic climbing rose with delicate white flowers? Rosa banksiae 'Alba' (Banksia Rose) brings clusters of small, double blooms, ideal for covering fences or trellises. Prefer a soft yellow, rambling variety? Rosa banksiae 'Lutea' (Banksia Rose) creates a golden waterfall effect in spring.

Roses thrive in sunny spots and reward gardeners with repeat blooms when cared for with regular feeding, pruning, and good air circulation. Their timeless beauty has made them a favourite in floral arrangements, cottage gardens, and formal plantings alike.

For those who enjoy adding variety, consider combining roses with other perennials. The Hemerocallis Rose Cherub (Rose Daylily) is a lovely companion plant, bringing vibrant, long-lasting flowers that accentuate rose beds.

The Allure of Gardenias

Gardenias are renowned for their glossy evergreen leaves and exquisitely scented white blooms. These elegant shrubs bring a touch of subtropical glamour to garden beds, entrances, and patios. For an exceptional performer with generous, classic white flowers, Gardenia Professor Pucci is a popular choice in New Zealand gardens, known for its robust growth and strong perfume.

Seeking a gardenia with consistent flowering and romantic charm? Gardenia True Love lives up to its name, delivering waves of blooms with a signature scent that lingers in the evening air.

Gardenias prefer a sheltered, partially shaded spot and thrive in rich, acidic, well-drained soils. Mulching and regular feeding with acid-loving plant food will help keep gardenias healthy and productive, ensuring masses of blooms.

Creating a Garden with Roses and Gardenias

Combining roses and gardenias in your landscape allows you to enjoy the best of both worlds: the colourful, classic appeal of roses alongside the lush greenery and heady perfume of gardenias. Position them where you can enjoy their scents—by doorways, paths, or outdoor living areas.

Ready to elevate your garden with roses and gardenias? Browse our collection of stunning plants, including Rosa banksiae 'Alba' (Banksia Rose), Rosa banksiae 'Lutea' (Banksia Rose), Hemerocallis Rose Cherub (Rose Daylily), Gardenia Professor Pucci, and Gardenia True Love, and let your garden become a sanctuary of beauty and fragrance.
