Choosing Rose Plants for Your Garden

Rose plants are cherished for their timeless beauty and versatility. They fit perfectly in formal gardens, mixed borders, and even containers on patios. When searching for rose plants at Bunnings or other nurseries, you’ll find options ranging from classic hybrid teas to exquisite floribundas and easy-care shrub roses. Each type offers unique blooms, colours, and growth habits, making it easy to find the perfect match for your space. For gardeners seeking something truly special, the Rose Simplicity Violet Serenity is a standout, combining vibrant violet tones with serene simplicity.

Alternatives and Companion Plants for Roses

If you’re keen to diversify your garden palette, consider companion plants that complement roses beautifully. Daylilies, for instance, bring texture and charm to rose beds. The Hemerocallis Rose Cherub (Rose Daylily) offers delicate pink blossoms that pair elegantly with traditional roses. For a touch of tropical flair, the Canna Cannova Rose stands out with its bold foliage and rosy blooms, providing seasonal interest alongside your favourite roses.

Those seeking more ground cover and resilience might look to moss rose options. The Portulaca Pazzaz Sunset (Moss Rose Plant) boasts vibrant colours and thrives in sunny spots, making it a lovely complement to upright rose bushes.

Caring for Your Rose Plants

Whether you purchase rose plants from Bunnings or a local nursery, proper care ensures their lasting performance. Roses appreciate a position with full sun, well-drained soil, and regular watering—especially during dry spells. Mulching helps retain moisture and keeps roots cool. Pruning is important for encouraging lush growth and abundant blooms, and should be done in late winter or early spring. Feed your roses with specialised rose fertiliser, and monitor for common pests and diseases.

Pairing roses with indoor foliage can also enhance your home’s natural beauty. For eye-catching indoor greenery, the Stromanthe Triostar (Stromanthe Plant) offers vibrant leaves, creating contrast and interest when paired near colourful rose arrangements.
