Why Choose Rose 'Flower Carpet Red'?

Few roses rival the blooming stamina of the red carpet rose. From late spring until autumn, you’ll enjoy a succession of brilliant red flowers against a backdrop of healthy foliage. The plant’s compact growth habit (typically 60cm high and up to 1m wide) ensures you get maximum impact with minimal fuss. This rose is highly tolerant to New Zealand’s variable climates, making it a resilient addition to gardens large and small. Plus, its superior disease resistance—especially against common rose afflictions like black spot and mildew—means you spend less time spraying and more time enjoying the view.

Best Uses for the Red Carpet Rose

Rose 'Flower Carpet Red' is famed for its versatility. Here are a few popular ways to use it in your landscape:

Groundcover: Plant en masse for a vivid red carpet that suppresses weeds and delivers non-stop colour.
Borders and Edging: Frame pathways or garden beds with its lush blooms and compact shape.
Containers: Perfect for pots or raised beds, where its flowers can spill over edges for a dramatic effect.
Slope Stabilisation: The dense growth of red carpet rose is ideal for erosion control with added ornamental value.

Planting and Care Tips

For best results, choose a sunny spot with well-draining soil. Space plants about 60cm apart to allow for healthy spread and airflow. Water regularly during dry spells, especially when newly planted, but established plants tolerate periods of drought. Light pruning in late winter or early spring encourages fresh growth and keeps your red carpet rose looking tidy. Mulching helps retain moisture and keeps roots cool.
