Why Choose Purple Sage for Your Garden

Purple sage is not only visually striking, but it’s also wonderfully resilient. This evergreen perennial offers silvery-purple leaves and spires of deep lavender blooms that appear from late spring through summer. Ideal for sunny spots, purple sage tolerates drought, poor soils, and coastal conditions—making it a brilliant addition to both novice and seasoned gardens alike. If you appreciate unique foliage, the aromatic leaves provide year-round interest and can be used in the kitchen for culinary delights.

Our Selection of Purple Sage Plants

At our nursery, we’re passionate about supplying only the best-quality purple sage plants for sale. We proudly offer Salvia Purple (Purple Sage), a robust variety celebrated for its vivid flowers and attractive foliage. Our sage plants come established in pots, ready to be planted in your garden or containers.

Looking to diversify your display? We also offer related salvias, such as Salvia Santa Barbara (Mexican Sage), which provides a stunning contrast with its soft purple blooms and lush, green foliage. Pairing these varieties together can create a dynamic, colour-rich landscape with the bonus of being low-maintenance.

Companion Plants for a Spectacular Garden

Enhance your purple palette by combining purple sage with other striking plants. For ground cover interest, Acaena purpurea (Piripiri) adds unique texture while echoing purple tones in your planting beds. For indoor displays or shaded corners, Anthurium Zizou Purple' offers glossy leaves and stunning purple blooms that complement sage’s outdoor beauty.

If you’re working on a layered border, consider Dodonaea viscosa purpurea (Purple Hop Bush) as a backdrop shrub, with its dramatic purple foliage intensifying the colours in your garden year-round.

How to Grow and Care for Purple Sage

Growing purple sage is rewarding and straightforward. Plant in a sunny location with free-draining soil, and water regularly during establishment. Once mature, purple sage needs minimal care—just occasional pruning to keep its shape and a light feed in spring. Its aromatic leaves deter pests, making it an excellent choice for natural pest control.

For culinary enthusiasts, harvest leaves fresh throughout the year to enhance roasts, stuffings, and homemade teas.
