Why Choose Prunus laurocerasus for Your Garden?

Prunus laurocerasus is an exceptional choice if you want a living hedge that looks great year-round. Its robustness means it tolerates the diverse climates found across New Zealand, including frosty winters and hot summers. This species is prized not only for its rapid growth but also for its ability to recover after trimming or pruning. It thrives in full sun as well as partial shade, ensuring flexibility for almost any garden design. If you’re seeking instant impact and long-term performance, it’s easy to see why Prunus laurocerasus is a go-to for privacy, shelterbelts, and ornamental planting.

Features and Growing Tips

Evergreen Foliage: Lush, glossy leaves provide consistent greenery and an attractive backdrop throughout all seasons.
Fast-Growing: Establishes quickly, typically forming a thick hedge within two to three years.
Versatile Uses: Ideal for hedging, screening, topiary, or even as a standalone feature shrub.
Low Maintenance: Drought-tolerant once established, and responds well to pruning.

For best results, plant in well-drained soil, water during dry spells, and feed with a slow-release fertiliser in spring. Pruning annually helps maintain shape and density, ensuring your hedge stays healthy and vigorous.
