Pratia 'Country Park'

Pratia 'Country Park' is a NZ native that is often grown as a hardy ground cover. The small leaves on this plant give the appearance of a lush, green carpet. It becomes adorned with masses of small, China-blue coloured flowers from spring through until autumn as it grows to 10 cm tall and 50 cm wide. Pratia 'Country Park' is commonly used as a ground cover, grown an alternative to a grass lawn, included in and cottage gardens, or planted between paving stones and the like. It also looks fantastic when grown in a hanging basket and allowed to trail over the sides.

Why Choose Pratia County Park for Your Garden?

Pratia county park stands out among groundcover plants for its ability to thrive in a variety of conditions, from full sun to part shade. It’s not just attractive—the masses of small, vivid blue flowers in spring and summer add a splash of cheerful colour, while the tightly-knit foliage creates a soft, pleasing texture underfoot. This variety is especially popular in cottage-style gardens, around ponds, or wherever you want a pop of low-maintenance, evergreen coverage.

How to Grow Pratia County Park

Growing Pratia county park couldn’t be easier. It prefers moist, well-drained soil and regular watering during dry spells, but once established, this mat-forming perennial is remarkably drought-tolerant and can handle a bit of foot traffic. If you’re after more variety in your groundcovers, explore other popular Pratia varieties such as Pratia pedunculata 'alba', known for its dainty white blooms, the vigorous Pratia angulata, or classic Pratia pedunculata.

When planting, space specimens about 30cm apart, as Pratia will quickly fill in gaps and help prevent soil erosion on banks and slopes. Pratia county park is evergreen, so your garden stays looking lush year-round with minimal maintenance—simply trim back runners if your plant gets too adventurous.

Perfect Pairings with Pratia County Park

Pratia county park pairs beautifully with a range of garden companions. For a contrasting look, plant alongside Grevillea Pink Midget (Pink Midget Grevillea) with its delicate pink blossoms or evergreen Euonymus fortunei (Wintercreeper). The delicate texture of Erica carnea or the vibrant blooms of Erica carnea Springwood Pink (Winter Heath) are also striking complements. For an alternative ground-hugging accent, try Acaena purpurea (Piripiri).

If blue flowers enchant you, another delightful choice is Pratia 'Country Park Blue'. For a pure white touch, browse Pratia 'Summer Snow', offering cool, crisp highlights through the seasons.
