Why choose plum trees for your garden?

Plum trees are a wonderful addition to any garden, offering beautiful foliage, spring blossoms, and abundant fruit. They’re adaptable to New Zealand’s climate and can be grown in most regions from the Far North to the deep South. Plums are renowned for their sweet and tangy flavour, making them perfect for snacking, baking, jams, and sauces. Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned gardener, plum trees are generally easy to care for, requiring only basic pruning and feeding for optimal growth.

Our range of plum trees

Browse our premium selection of plum trees, all bred for local conditions and excellent fruit quality. If you’re seeking a heritage variety or something unique, consider Plum Hawera, a long-time favourite for its reliable yields and rich flavour. For those who want versatility, the Plum Black Doris and Billington double-grafted tree produces two varieties on one plant, giving you a longer harvest and more diverse fruit. The Plum McLean is perfect for those who love juicy, traditional plums, while the Plum Billington is known for its deep colour and early ripening. If you prefer Japanese plums, Plum Santa Rosa delivers large, sweet fruit and is a superb pollinator for other varieties.

Planting and caring for your plum trees

Before choosing plum trees for sale near me, consider your garden’s climate, space, and sunlight. Plums thrive in full sun and well-drained soil. We recommend planting in winter or early spring for the best start. Select self-fertile types or plant complementary varieties for cross-pollination and a heavier crop. Annual pruning helps maintain tree shape and boost harvests. Mulching, watering during dry spells, and feeding with balanced fertiliser will keep your trees healthy and productive.
