Why Choose Plum Trees for Your Garden?

Plums are a fantastic addition to New Zealand gardens, thriving in most regions when given sun and regular care. They are valued for their resilience, productivity, and versatility. Enjoy them straight from the tree, use them in jams and preserves, or bake them into mouthwatering desserts. Plum trees can also serve as attractive feature trees, with spring blossoms providing a burst of seasonal beauty and their foliage giving year-round interest.

Tips for Growing Plum Trees

Plant your new plum trees in a sunny, well-drained spot with shelter from strong winds. Plums prefer soil enriched with compost or well-rotted manure. Water new plantings regularly during their establishment period, and mulch well to retain moisture and suppress weeds. Most plum varieties are at least partially self-fertile, but planting two or more varieties—such as Plum McLean and Plum Hawera—can improve pollination and boost your harvest.
