What is Pink Princess Tradescantia?

Often mistaken for similar varieties, the pink princess tradescantia (also called Tradescantia tricolor or Tradescantia ‘Nanouk’) features broad leaves boldly striped with pink and cream, set against a lush green background. This eye-catching plant belongs to the wider Tradescantia family, which also includes popular options such as Tradescantia sillamontana, Tradescantia pallida, and Tradescantia blossfeldiana. The pink princess tradescantia is especially sought-after for its cheerful pastel hues and rapid, low-fuss growth.

Growing and Caring for Pink Princess Tradescantia

To get the most out of your pink princess tradescantia, provide it with bright, indirect light, which helps intensify its variegation while preventing sunburn. Standard indoor temperatures work well, though the plant appreciates occasional misting to boost humidity. Water when the top few centimetres of soil become dry, and plant in a light, free-draining mix to avoid soggy roots.

If you love to experiment with propagation, pink princess tradescantia is a dream—take cuttings, pop them in water or directly into soil, and you'll have more gorgeous pink plants to share or grow. Regular pinching encourages bushier growth and controls length, allowing you to display it as a trailing shelf accent, hanging basket feature, or even a desk companion.

Pink Princess Tradescantia in New Zealand Homes

This showy variety perfectly complements other statement houseplants such as Philodendron 'Pink Princess' if you want to build a pink-themed indoor oasis. It's also right at home among other Tradescantia varieties—pair it with the silvery threads of Tradescantia sillamontana, the deep purple tones of Tradescantia pallida, or the unique growth of Tradescantia blossfeldiana. For those who appreciate hardy, garden-ready types, Tradescantia virginiana is another splendid option for outdoor spaces.
