Why Choose Pink Hydrangeas?

Pink hydrangeas are cherished for their ability to brighten garden spaces with their vibrant, cheerful tones. Pink hydrangea varieties aren’t just beautiful—they’re also resilient, coping well with New Zealand’s varied climates. With their robust growth habit and reliable flowering, they are ideal for both experienced gardeners and newcomers.

Must-Grow Pink Hydrangea Varieties

With so many options available, choosing among pink hydrangea varieties can be a joyful task. Here are several standout selections to explore:

Hydrangea Madame Plumecoq

A classic mophead variety, Hydrangea Madame Plumecoq displays large clusters of deep, rich pink flowers. Its robust form and showy blooms make it a superb choice for hedging, specimen planting, or cutting gardens.

Hydrangea Mrs Kumiko

Distinctive for its soft, romantic blush pink blooms, Hydrangea Mrs Kumiko is a favourite for cottage-style gardens. The elegant, rounded flowers create a delicate effect, perfect for softening borders or pairing with lavender-blue companions.

Hydrangea Geoffrey Chadbund

Known for its large, domed flower heads, Hydrangea Geoffrey Chadbund offers a beautiful blend of light pink petals that mature to richer tones over the season. Its strong stems and lush foliage make it a reliable addition to mixed beds and foundation plantings.

Hydrangea You Me Passion

For gardeners seeking something uniquely showy, Hydrangea You Me Passion delivers double pink blooms with an almost rosette-like appearance. These extraordinary flowers add architectural interest and are outstanding in both garden displays and vases.

Hydrangea Piamina

Petite and perfect for smaller spaces, Hydrangea Piamina shines with compact mophead blooms in a clear, bright pink. Its tidy size makes it ideal for pots, city gardens, or as a front-of-border accent.

Tips for Growing Pink Hydrangea Varieties

To get the best colour from pink hydrangea varieties, ensure your soil isn’t too acidic—adding garden lime can help encourage pink rather than blue blooms. They prefer morning sun and afternoon shade, along with plenty of mulch and regular summer watering. Deadhead spent flowers to prolong the display, and prune lightly after flowering to maintain their shape.

With careful selection and a little know-how, you’ll enjoy a succession of glorious pink blooms from your chosen hydrangeas year after year. Discover the joy of growing pink hydrangea varieties and transform your garden into a haven of floral beauty.
