Cherry Dawson

The 'Dawson' Cherry produces large, black coloured fruit in summer. The fruit has red flesh that is sweet with a lovely flavour. It requires another variety planted alongside (“a pollinator”) to produce good fruit yields, such as 'Early Rivers' or 'Stella'. This deciduous tree grows upright to about 5 m tall and 3 m wide, performing best when planted in full sun on a well-drained, sheltered site. Cherries require a cold winter to set fruit, hence they are less suited to regions where winters tend to be mild. The 'Dawson' Cherry is commonly used for fruit production and makes an attractive tree in its own right.

Why Plant a Pink Cherry Blossom Tree?

A pink cherry blossom tree is more than just a visual delight; it symbolises renewal and the changing seasons. In New Zealand’s diverse climate, these ornamental cherry trees thrive from Northland to Otago, bringing vibrant colour and structure to urban and rural gardens alike. Their arching branches provide dappled shade in summer, and their foliage turns golden in autumn, offering multi-season impact. Plus, early blossoms provide nectar for pollinators emerging in spring.

Our Favourite Pink Cherry Blossom Varieties

When searching for a pink cherry blossom tree for sale, you’ll find a curated range suited to Kiwi gardens. One standout variety is the Prunus Accolade, renowned for its abundant, semi-double rose-pink flowers that cover bare branches in late winter to early spring. This robust tree is compact and disease-resistant, making it a favourite for both smaller yards and larger landscapes.

While ornamental cherry blossoms are grown for their breathtaking flowers, you might also consider planting productive fruiting cherries. Our range includes delicious varieties such as Cherry Rainier, prized for its large, sweet yellow fruit with a reddish blush; Cherry Dawson, famous for juicy, deep red cherries; Cherry Modesto, which offers heavy crops great for fresh eating or preserving; and Cherry Griotella Frumi, known for its tangy-sweet flavour.

Growing and Caring for Your Pink Cherry Blossom Tree

Selecting a pink cherry blossom tree for sale is just the beginning. These trees enjoy well-drained, fertile soil and a sheltered spot in full sun to partial shade. Prepare your planting area ahead of time with compost and mulch to help retain moisture. Water regularly during dry spells, especially while your cherry blossom establishes its roots. Prune lightly in winter to shape the tree and remove any damaged branches, but avoid heavy pruning that may reduce flowering.

Ready to Enhance Your Garden?

There’s nothing quite like a pink cherry blossom tree for sale to elevate your outdoor space and create a serene spring oasis. Explore our selection today and discover the best ornamental and fruiting cherry trees for your location. Whether you choose a Prunus Accolade for show-stopping blooms or prefer one of our mouth-watering cherry fruiting varieties like Cherry Rainier or Cherry Griotella Frumi, you’ll enjoy years of seasonal beauty and delight.
