Why Choose Phormium Electric Pink?

Phormium electric pink stands out for its vivid foliage, which maintains its brilliant colour even through the colder months when other plants fade. Its hardy, evergreen habit and upright growth make it an excellent choice for low-maintenance gardens, coastal landscapes, and urban plantings. This variety typically grows to around 1 metre high and wide, forming dense clumps that provide architectural interest and structural contrast. Phormium electric pink is also highly tolerant of wind, salt spray, and dry conditions, making it perfect for exposed sites and coastal gardens across New Zealand.

Where to Plant Phormium Electric Pink

Phormium electric pink thrives in full sun to partial shade and adapts well to a range of soils, as long as drainage is good. Its bold colouring really shines when planted en masse, as a sculptural backdrop, or used as a focal point in courtyard gardens. Mix it with durable companions such as grasses, succulents, or other dramatic flaxes for an eye-catching, contemporary look. Phormium electric pink also performs beautifully in large pots, brightening patios and entrances with its vivid foliage.

Caring for Phormium Electric Pink

One of the main appeals of phormium electric pink is its easy-care requirements. Simply water regularly through the first growing season to establish roots, then reduce watering as the plant matures. It tolerates periods of drought, and is generally untroubled by pests or diseases. Pruning is minimal—just remove old or damaged leaves at the base to keep the plant fresh and tidy. An annual application of compost or a slow-release fertiliser in spring will help promote lush, healthy growth.

Stylish Companions for Phormium Electric Pink

Looking to create a dynamic garden display? Pair phormium electric pink with other vibrant varieties for all-season colour and variety in your landscape. Great options include Cordyline Electric Pink for a complementary burst of pink and contrasting leaf form, or the deep burgundy tones of Phormium 'Velvet Underground'. For gardeners who love pink foliage, Phormium 'Pink Panther' and Phormium 'Jester' offer striking alternatives with unique colour blends. For a softer blend, consider Phormium 'Evening Glow', which has pastel pinks and green.
