Why Choose Perovskia Little Spire?

Perovskia Little Spire is a refined choice for gardeners who want the beauty and toughness of Russian sage, but with a space-saving, more structured growth habit. Reaching about 60-75cm in height, its tightly vertical stems stay neat and upright without flopping. The aromatic, silver-grey leaves are deer resistant and thrive in full sun and well-drained soils. Little Spire is drought-tolerant once established, making it a sustainable pick for low-water landscapes or exposed gardens.

Planting and Care Tips

Plant your Perovskia Little Spire in a sunny spot with well-drained soil. It pairs perfectly with gravel gardens, border edges, or as a stunning feature in pots. This plant requires little maintenance—an annual prune in late winter or early spring will keep it looking fresh and encourage plenty of new blooms. Like its relatives, such as Perovskia Blue Spire (Russian Sage Plant) and Perovskia atriplicifolia (Perovskia plant), Little Spire is a fantastic choice for adding pollinator-friendly flowers and silvery accents to your garden.

Design Ideas for Perovskia Little Spire

With its soft, misty flowers contrasting against resilient, silvery foliage, Perovskia Little Spire works well in mixed beds, modern designs, and perennial borders. It adds gentle movement and textural contrast when planted alongside other New Zealand favourites like Corokia Little Prince or the low-growing Pittosporum Little Sprite (Dwarf Pittosporum). For a delicate, layered look, try pairing Little Spire with small shrubs such as Pieris Little Heath, which complements the blue tones with glossy green and creamy-white foliage.

Choosing the Right Perovskia for Your Garden

If you’re deciding between Perovskia varieties, Perovskia Little Spire offers compact form and tidy, vertical stems ideal for smaller spaces or formal borders. For larger sites, consider Perovskia Blue Spire (Russian Sage Plant), which offers greater height and a looser habit, or the classic Perovskia atriplicifolia (Perovskia plant) for naturalistic plantings.
