Why Choose Perennial Landscape Plants?

Perennial landscape plants are prized for their ability to return year after year, making them an economical and eco-friendly choice for gardeners. Once established, most perennials require less watering, reduced fertiliser, and minimal replacements, meaning less work for you and more time to enjoy your garden. Their broad range of sizes, colours, and textures means you can mix and match varieties for a rich tapestry of interest—from spring flushes to autumn golds. Perennials also support local wildlife, attracting beneficial insects like bees and butterflies to your garden.

Featured Perennial Landscape Plant Varieties

The allure of perennial landscape plants lies in their diversity. For bold flower displays and compact form, Armeria maritima 'Rubra' offers vivid pink-red blooms and a neat mounding habit that suits borders, rock gardens, or coastal landscapes. If you’re seeking easy-care colour, Geranium Stephanie (Perennial Geranium Plants) provide masses of bright pink flowers from spring until autumn, perfect for edging beds or pathways.

Foliage is equally important in the perennial garden. Ligularia 'Rukuhia Beauty' (Small Leaved Ligularia) delivers lush, textural leaves and cheerful yellow flower spikes, performing well even in shaded spots. For indoor and outdoor versatility, Chlorophytum comosum variegatum (Spider Plant) is a top pick, with arching, variegated foliage and resilience in a range of conditions.

If fragrance is what you’re after, Viola odorata (Sweet Violet) offers delicate purple flowers with a delightful scent, perfect for planting along walkways or tucked into shady corners where their perfume can be appreciated.

Planting and Caring for Perennial Landscape Plants

When adding perennial landscape plants to your garden, choose a location suited to your chosen species—most prefer well-drained soil and partial to full sun, although many tolerate shade. Prepare the soil with compost and mulch to retain moisture and suppress weeds. Water young plants regularly until established, then reduce frequency as they grow stronger. Most perennials benefit from an annual prune to rejuvenate growth and encourage new blooms.

Create Your Perennial Paradise
