Its cascading vines are densely packed with succulent-like leaves that hold water, making this plant more drought-tolerant than you might expect. The delicate, trailing stems look stunning cascading from shelves or hanging baskets, while the turtle shell-like patterns set this species apart from other trailing peperomias. If you’re captivated by charming foliage, explore our Peperomia prostrata (String of Turtles) collection designed for New Zealand homes.

Growing Tips for String of Turtles

For success with peperomia prostrata string of turtles, provide it with bright, indirect light to help the markings stay vivid and bold. These plants prefer their soil to dry out slightly between waterings, so avoid heavy, soggy mixes. A well-draining potting blend works best. They thrive in warm, humid spaces, making bathrooms and kitchens ideal spots. Fertilise once a month during spring and summer with a balanced liquid feed. The plant rarely requires repotting due to its slow-growing nature, but occasional pruning helps maintain a tidy appearance.

Styling Ideas and Companion Plants

Peperomia prostrata string of turtles is incredibly versatile. Showcase its trailing habit in a hanging planter, or let it spill gracefully from a bookshelf. For those wishing to diversify their Peperomia collection, consider pairing string of turtles with similar low-maintenance varieties like Peperomia scandens variegata (Cupid Peperomia), Peperomia scandens, Peperomia magnoliifolia, or Peperomia magnoliifolia variegata (Peperomia Plant).
