Why Choose an Oderings Lemon Tree?

An Oderings lemon tree is a reliable choice for both beginner gardeners and seasoned citrus enthusiasts. Grown with care right here in New Zealand, each tree is selected for optimal vigour, fruit production, and disease resistance. Lemon trees from Oderings are well-suited to NZ growing conditions, ensuring you can enjoy homegrown lemons for refreshing drinks, cooking, cleaning, and natural fragrance around your deck or kitchen.

The Best Varieties for Home Gardens

The popularity of the classic Meyer lemon is unmatched—it’s super juicy, relatively sweet, and fruits generously throughout the year. If you’re looking to create variety or compare flavour, the double-grafted Lemon Meyer and Yen Ben (Double Grafted Lemon) offers two highly regarded varieties on one tree, maximising your lemon harvest and extending the fruiting season. For those who prefer a larger, old-fashioned lemon, the Lemon 'Ponderosa' is a standout option, producing giant lemons with a rugged, rustic appearance and powerful lemon tang.

Growing and Caring for Your Lemon Tree

Plant your Oderings lemon tree in well-drained soil with plenty of sun and shelter from cold winds. Regular watering, seasonal feeding with a quality citrus fertiliser, and mulching in dry weather keeps your tree healthy and productive. For best results, position your tree where it receives at least six hours of sunlight daily—perfect for pots on a sunny deck or directly in the ground.

Protecting your lemon tree from pests and frost is important. In colder regions, container-grown trees can be moved or sheltered during winter. Prune lightly in late winter or early spring to shape your tree and encourage a bushy, productive canopy.

Pairing Your Lemon Tree with Other Plants

Lemon trees pair beautifully with aromatic or hardy companions in the landscape. Consider an evergreen such as Pittosporum eugenioides (Tarata) for structure and shelter. Add interest with ornamental options like Kniphofia 'Lemon Fizz', which brings bold yellow flower spikes that echo the sunny vibrancy of your lemons. For indoor plant lovers, complement your lemon tree with the easy-care Crassula ovata (Money Tree), perfect for brightening patios, conservatories, or windowsills.
