Why grow nut plants?

Nut plants are prized for their dual value: they’re both ornamental and productive. Many nut trees, such as walnuts or pecans, boast impressive foliage and form, while also delivering a bounty of nutritious nuts each autumn. Nut trees tend to be hardy and long-lived, providing shade, improving soil health, and attracting wildlife. They’re ideal for gardeners seeking edible landscaping or for those wanting to create a sustainable, low-maintenance food source on their property.

Popular nut plants for sale in New Zealand

Our nursery offers a curated selection of nut plants for sale, all suited to local conditions. Here are some top picks:

Planting and care tips

When planting nut trees, consider their mature size and site requirements. Most nut plants thrive in well-drained soil, full sun, and sheltered positions. Space trees generously to allow sunlight and airflow; this reduces disease risk and ensures strong growth. Regular watering and mulching during the first few years establishes healthy roots, while annual feeding encourages abundant crops. Pruning young trees shapes their future growth, and keeping your orchard weed-free will boost productivity.
