Key Features of Nepeta Blue Cloud

Nepeta blue cloud forms loose, bushy mounds of silvery-green leaves topped with a mass of petite, sky-blue flowers from late spring into autumn. These clouds of blooms create an ethereal effect in the garden, gently swaying with each breeze. As with other nepetas, such as Nepeta mussinii (Catmint) and Nepeta faassenii, nepeta blue cloud offers aromatic foliage that helps deter pests while inviting pollinators like bees and butterflies.

Mature plants typically reach 40–50 cm in height and spread, making nepeta blue cloud versatile for edging paths, softening garden transitions, or filling gaps in sun-baked spots. Its low-maintenance nature means little fussing—simply plant in well-drained soil with plenty of sun, and enjoy months of long-lasting blooms.

How to Grow Nepeta Blue Cloud in New Zealand

Nepeta blue cloud is wonderfully forgiving, thriving in a range of conditions often found in New Zealand gardens. It copes well with coastal winds, poor soils, and extended dry periods, so it's a great solution for tricky planting spots. For best results:

If you're seeking other varieties to complement nepeta blue cloud, consider Nepeta 'Blue Wonder' (Catmint) for more vibrant blue hues, or Nepeta 'Walkers Low' (Catmint) for a larger, sprawling effect in your flower beds.

Garden Uses for Nepeta Blue Cloud

Nepeta blue cloud is exceptionally versatile in the garden. It works beautifully as a soft edging plant for walkways or mixed borders, and pairs well with classic cottage favourites like roses, lavender, and salvias. Its gentle colour blends easily with both cottage or contemporary styles, while its fine texture contrasts nicely with bolder-leaved companions. Plant nepeta blue cloud en masse for a misty blue drift, or tuck it between stone paths to soften hard lines and charm passersby.

For gardeners who adore nepeta’s pest-resistant, pollinator-attracting qualities but want more variety, Nepeta 'Six Hills Giant' (Catmint) offers larger stature and bold presence in larger garden designs.

Why Choose Nepeta Blue Cloud?

With its easygoing nature and long flowering season, nepeta blue cloud is an excellent addition to New Zealand gardens big or small. Whether you’re designing a waterwise border, supporting bees, or seeking reliable colour, this resilient perennial delivers year after year. Explore the world of catmints, including Nepeta mussinii (Catmint) and its relatives, to build a thriving, beautiful garden sanctuary.
