How Big Does Nandina 'Firepower' Grow?

Nandina 'Firepower' is renowned for its small, neat habit. At maturity, the typical Nandina 'Firepower' size reaches around 45cm to 60cm in height and spreads 60cm to 80cm wide. Its growth is dense and bushy, making it perfect for ground covers, low hedging, and accent plantings. Unlike taller nandinas, 'Firepower' stays compact without regular pruning, so it’s a superb choice for those wanting a tidy, manageable shrub year-round.

Ideal Uses for Nandina 'Firepower' Based on Size

Because Nandina 'Firepower' size is small and upright, it’s well-suited for:

Its vivid lime-green leaves mature into fiery reds and oranges in autumn and winter, delivering striking colour in spaces where taller shrubs would overwhelm. For comparison, other nandinas like Nandina Gulf Stream, Nandina Richmond, and Nandina Obsession offer different heights and shapes if you need more variety in your planting scheme.

Planting and Maintenance Tips

Nandina 'Firepower' prefers well-drained soil and a sunny to partly shaded position. It adapts well to most New Zealand climates and is exceptionally low-maintenance. Water during dry spells, mulch to retain moisture, and tidy any old foliage as new growth appears.

Minimal pruning is needed thanks to its restrained size. If you're looking for smaller specimens, check out Nandina 'Pygmaea', which offers even more petite proportions.
