Why Grow the Margaret Merril Climbing Rose?

The Margaret Merril Climbing Rose is a captivating addition to any outdoor space. It is known for its large, semi-double flowers that open a soft blush-pink then fade to pure white. Each flower is accented with golden stamens, and the sweet, spicy scent makes it a favourite for picking. This reliable climbing rose will wow you with repeat flowering through spring, summer, and autumn, creating beautiful displays of blooms against healthy dark green foliage.

This climbing form thrives in New Zealand gardens, handling a variety of conditions with ease. Whether you’re looking to cover an archway, ramble over a pergola, or soften a boundary fence, the Margaret Merril Climbing Rose provides both stunning blooms and delightful perfume.

How to Plant and Care for Your Margaret Merril Climbing Rose

Plant your Margaret Merril Climbing Rose in a sunny position with well-drained soil enriched with organic matter. Water thoroughly at planting and maintain deep, regular watering during dry spells. Feed in early spring and again in mid-summer with a quality rose fertiliser to promote healthy growth and prolific flowering. Prune in winter by removing dead wood and shaping your plant as needed, making sure to encourage an open structure for air flow. Good mulching helps to suppress weeds and retain moisture, giving your rose the best start.

This climbing rose is generally robust, but aim for good spacing and airflow to minimise disease risk. With the right care, you’ll enjoy an abundance of flowers and healthy foliage year after year.
