Why Choose a Mainly Natives Plant Nursery?

A mainly natives plant nursery provides more than just plants—it offers expertise in matching the right species to your garden’s needs. Our selection is based on years of horticultural experience and a deep passion for conservation. Native plants are generally lower maintenance, drought tolerant, and foster a healthy environment for birds, insects, and pollinators. With a nursery specialising in native species, you’ll find advice tailored to New Zealand conditions, ensuring your garden flourishes for years to come.

Groundcovers and Adaptable Native Species

Groundcovers are the unsung heroes of sustainable NZ landscaping, helping to suppress weeds, stabilise slopes, and retain moisture. A mainly natives plant nursery stocks a range of resilient groundcover plants that can handle tough coastal, alpine, and urban garden conditions.

Explore versatile options like Coprosma prostrata, a hardy native groundcover with glossy foliage that creates dense mats, perfect for banks and retaining walls. Another favourite is Coprosma kirkii, treasured for its fine foliage and adaptability to dry and exposed sites.

For areas needing quick coverage with subtle beauty, Pratia angulata offers a soft, green carpet and is loved for its tiny, star-shaped white flowers in spring and summer. If you’re after something unique, Pimelea prostrata 'Blue Peter' provides blue-grey foliage and dainty white flowers—excellent for coastal gardens in particular.

Bringing Biodiversity to Your Backyard

Choosing NZ natives from a mainly natives plant nursery is one of the simplest and most effective ways to boost garden biodiversity. These plants have evolved alongside our native wildlife, providing food sources and habitat for insects, birds, and lizards. Opting for species like Coprosma 'Hawera' (Sand Coprosma) not only adds a fine-textured, silver-green cover to difficult spots, but also supports the broader ecosystem.

Our nursery team can help you select groundcovers and other natives that complement each other and your garden’s microclimate. With careful planning and the right plant mix, you’ll create a resilient, low-maintenance garden that thrives year after year.
