Why Choose Magnolia Little Bear (Teddy Bear)?

This magnolia truly shines in smaller gardens or landscapes where space is limited. Reaching only around 3-4 metres tall, Magnolia Little Bear forms a dense, upright shape with rich, deep green foliage and signature rusty-brown undersides. The contrast between the smooth glossy leaves and velvet-like undersides adds interest, even when the plant is not in bloom. In late spring and summer, masses of large, creamy white, cup-shaped flowers with a subtle citrus fragrance cover the bush, attracting bees and other pollinators to your garden.

Ideal Uses for Magnolia Little Bear

Perfect for hedging, screening, or as a specimen tree, Magnolia Teddy Bear adapts well to a range of garden styles, from lush subtropical to classic cottage. Plant as a row along a boundary for a green privacy wall or let a single specimen take centre stage in a stylish courtyard. Magnolia Little Bear is ideal for pots and large containers, so apartment dwellers or those with smaller outdoor spaces can enjoy its year-round lushness.

Planting and Care Tips

To get the best from your Magnolia Little Bear, choose a spot with well-drained soil and full sun to part shade. While these compact magnolias handle wind and coastal conditions better than many large-leafed varieties, they’ll thrive with regular water during the first year as they establish. Feed with a controlled-release fertiliser in early spring, and mulch well to conserve moisture and suppress weeds.
