Why Choose Liriope spicata?

Liriope spicata is one of the most dependable groundcovers available, especially for New Zealand gardens that need resilience with minimal input. Its grass-like leaves form dense, spreading clumps that suppress weeds naturally and create a lush, uniform look. During summer, spires of light purple flowers rise above the foliage, followed by decorative black berries in autumn. Whether you need erosion control on banks or a neat edging plant for garden paths, Liriope spicata adapts to both dry and damp soils, tolerant of drought once established. Explore Liriope spicata (Creeping Lilyturf) for a plant that's as hardworking as it is attractive.

How to Grow and Care for Liriope spicata

Planting Liriope spicata is simple and rewarding. Choose a spot in full sun to partial shade with moist, well-drained soil. This variety spreads by runners, making it exceptional for mass planting and filling awkward spaces where grass struggles to grow. Maintenance is limited to an annual tidy-up in late winter or spring, when old leaves can be cut back to make way for fresh growth. Its versatility means it pairs beautifully with flowering perennials, ferns, and compact shrubs.

Other Liriope Varieties Available

If you are seeking even more diversity for your garden, discover our wide selection of Liriope plants.
