Why Use a Specialised Lime Tree Fertilizer?

Lime trees are heavy feeders and respond best to fertilisers crafted for citrus nutrition. A quality lime tree fertilizer delivers nitrogen for lush leaves, phosphorus for flowers and roots, and potassium for plump fruit. Our Citrus Fertiliser also contains essential trace elements like magnesium and iron, often deficient in NZ soils, preventing yellowing leaves and supporting steady growth. Regular feeding with the right citrus food gives your lime tree all it needs to produce an abundance of tangy limes.

When and How to Apply Citrus Fertiliser in New Zealand

Feed your lime tree with a quality lime tree fertilizer at the beginning of spring, just as new growth appears, then again in late summer. For trees in the ground, sprinkle Citrus Fertiliser evenly under the outer branches (drip line) and water in well. For container-grown limes, apply smaller amounts more frequently. Using Compost alongside your Citrus Fertiliser improves soil structure and moisture retention, giving your lime tree an extra boost.

If you’re planting a new lime tree, consider establishing it in our PB1.5 Planter Bags or PB28 Planter Bags, then feed from the first spring after planting. Regular feeding supports flowering, fruit set, and helps your young tree become productive faster.

Growing Lime Trees for Lawns and Lush Surrounds

Lime and other citrus trees look fantastic as features in the garden, especially when paired with a healthy, green lawn. If you’re transforming your garden into the perfect sanctuary, pair your citrus with resilient Fine Fescue Lawn Seed, low-maintenance Tall Fescue, or multipurpose Amenity Ryegrass Seed (Lawn Seed). For a flourishing start, don’t forget New Lawn Fertiliser and keep your grass lush with top-up applications of Lawn Fertiliser. The right combination of citrus care and lawn nutrition creates a vibrant outdoor living space for you to enjoy.

Citrus Fertiliser vs Other Plant Fertilizers

While all-purpose fertilisers can assist a range of plants, using a dedicated lime tree fertilizer gives your citrus the edge it needs in New Zealand’s challenging soils. Indoor plant lovers after a convenient boost should try our Indoor Plant Fertiliser Tablets (Fertilizer Tablets), but for citrus: choose a blend that’s tailor-made. For established trees, use a sturdy tool like the Gomtaro 240 mm Saw for occasional pruning, aiding healthier growth alongside regular fertilising.

Give your lime trees the best possible start and ongoing care with the right lime tree fertilizer and supporting garden essentials. Shop our Citrus Fertiliser range and nurture a citrus garden that’s bursting with flavour.
