Why Choose Lawson Cypress for Your Garden?

Lawson cypress trees are renowned for their attractive, feathery foliage, slender upright growth habit, and excellent adaptability. Native to the Pacific Northwest of the USA, these conifers thrive in a range of soils and climates, making them suitable for much of New Zealand. Their dense evergreen nature makes them particularly popular for hedging, shelterbelts, and windbreaks, as well as for specimen planting where their elegant, blue-green foliage becomes a landscape highlight.

For those who value low-maintenance beauty, lawson cypress trees require little pruning and are generally pest-resistant. Their durability means you can enjoy privacy, shelter, and lush greenery for decades to come.

Varieties and Related Conifers

We stock a range of lawson cypress trees for sale in various sizes, ideal for both new landscaping projects and established gardens. Explore our current availability and detailed growing information on Chamaecyparis lawsoniana (Lawson Cypress). For even more choice, you may also be interested in other striking conifers from our collection, such as Cupressus sempervirens (Pencil Cypress), which offers a classic Mediterranean silhouette, or unique deciduous options like Taxodium distichum Cascade Falls, a graceful weeping swamp cypress.

If you’re intrigued by the diverse world of cypress and conifers, consider the historical elegance of Taxodium mucronatum (Montezuma Cypress) or the rare beauty of Taxodium Mexicanum (Mexican Swamp Cypress). Each brings its own unique texture and form to your planting.

Planting and Care Tips

Lawson cypress trees are easy to grow but will reward careful planting and establishment. Choose a sunny or lightly shaded spot and ensure good drainage, as overly wet conditions can encourage root rot. When planting for hedging or screens, space trees according to your preferred density and intended height. Mulching and consistent watering during the first two years will support rapid, healthy root development. Once established, these trees require minimal attention apart from the occasional tidy-up prune.
