Choose Your Kowhai Tree Gift

There are several beautiful varieties to choose from—each with its own unique charm and suitability for different gardens or landscapes. For smaller spaces, the Sophora microphylla (Small Leaved Kōwhai) grows into a graceful small tree, prized for its fine foliage and masses of golden flowers. If you're searching for something more lush or dramatic, consider the Sophora tetraptera (Large Leaved Kōwhai) with its broader leaves and impressive growth habit.

For something a little more unusual, the Sophora longicarinata (Limestone Kowhai) is a distinctive choice, thriving in well-drained soils and offering elegant, delicate foliage. The robust Sophora chathamica is well-suited to coastal gardens and windy sites, while Sophora godleyi (Godleys Kowhai) is known for its weeping habit and spectacular floral display.
