Growing and Caring for Iris Plants

Iris plants are as practical as they are pretty. Most varieties thrive in well-draining soil with at least half a day of sun. They require minimal maintenance—just the occasional tidy-up of spent flower stems and feeding in late winter or early spring. With their water-wise nature, irises are perfect for eco-friendly and low-maintenance gardens. Many varieties cope well with seasonal wet areas, making them ideal around ponds or in rain gardens. Our iris plants for sale are well-suited to a range of NZ climates, so you can plant with confidence.
