Features and Benefits of Hydrangea macrophylla Endless Summer

Hydrangea macrophylla Endless Summer stands out thanks to its capacity to produce blooms on both old and new wood. This means you’ll never miss a flowering season, even after pruning or harsh winters. The large, mophead flowers often range from rich blues to pretty pinks, with the ability to adjust their colour depending on your soil pH. Acidic soils produce classic blue heads, while more alkaline soils shift towards pink and lavender tones.

Not only does Hydrangea macrophylla Endless Summer thrive in New Zealand’s varied climates, but it’s also reliable for coastal and cooler regions where other varieties might struggle. Its tidy, rounded form reaches about 1 to 1.5 metres high and wide, making it ideal for smaller yards, foundation plantings, or containers.

Planting and Care Tips

For best results, plant your Hydrangea macrophylla Endless Summer in a location with morning sun and afternoon shade, or dappled light throughout the day. These hydrangeas appreciate rich, well-drained soil and regular moisture, especially during hot summer spells. Mulching helps retain soil moisture and keeps the roots cool.

Prune Hydrangea macrophylla Endless Summer lightly after flowering to maintain its shape and encourage fresh blooms. Since this variety flowers on both old and new growth, you have the flexibility to remove spent flowers or shape the plant as you wish without worrying about losing next year’s display.
