Its lush, dark green foliage forms a dense backdrop for the profusion of gently domed mophead blooms. Throughout the flowering season, these blooms attract pollinators and provide months of visual interest in the garden.

This hydrangea thrives in part shade and appreciates consistently moist, well-drained soil. With its reliable performance and hardy disposition, hydrangea macrophylla camilla is well-suited for New Zealand gardens, tolerating the country’s diverse coastal and inland climates.

How to Care for Hydrangea macrophylla camilla

Caring for hydrangea macrophylla camilla is straightforward, making it an excellent choice for both novice and experienced gardeners. Plant in a spot with morning sun and dappled afternoon shade, ideally in rich, moisture-retentive soil. Applying mulch in spring helps retain moisture and suppress weeds.

Regular watering is key, especially during prolonged dry spells. Prune after flowering to maintain shape and encourage strong flowering stems for the following season. If you wish to influence the flower colour, remember that acidic soils encourage blue tones, while alkaline soils bring out pink hues.
