Their resilience to New Zealand’s varied climates makes them a favourite among garden enthusiasts. Tips for Planting and Growing Hostas in NZ

Hostas flourish in shaded or semi-shaded spots with moist, well-drained soil. Add organic matter at planting time to boost growth and keep foliage vibrant. Mulching helps retain moisture and protects roots during New Zealand’s dry spells. Hostas are generally pest-resistant, though slug and snail protection is recommended.

Water regularly, especially through summer. Divide clumps every 3–5 years to maintain vigour and expand your collection. Mix and match different varieties for a tapestry of colour and texture in beds or borders.
