Choosing Grape Vine Varieties

Choosing grape vine varieties begins with understanding your site’s climate, sun exposure, and soil. While some varieties thrive in cool, coastal regions, others prefer the warmth of inland gardens. Early-ripening types suit cooler climates, while later varieties are ideal for sun-drenched areas.

If you dream of harvesting grapes for wine, consider classic cultivars such as Grape 'Pinot Noir'. This esteemed grape variety is prized for its complexity and flavour, making it one of the top choices in New Zealand’s southern wine regions. For those who prefer grapes for fresh eating, seedless varieties like Grape Thompson Seedless are wonderfully sweet, easy to grow, and ideal for kids’ lunchboxes.
