gift native trees

Looking for a unique and meaningful present? Gift native trees to your friends, family, or colleagues and give the long-lasting gift of nature. Native trees offer more than just shade and beauty — they help restore ecosystems, attract native birds like tūī and bellbirds, and create a living memory that grows over the years. Whether you’re celebrating a milestone, marking a significant occasion, or simply want to make a sustainable choice, gifting native trees is a thoughtful way to show you care for people and the environment.

Why Gift Native Trees?

Giving a native tree supports biodiversity and helps nurture New Zealand’s distinct landscape. When you gift native trees, you’re not just offering a beautiful plant; you’re also providing a habitat for birds and insects, helping sequester carbon, and fostering a sense of local pride. Native trees are well adapted to New Zealand’s climate and soils, making them hardy, resilient choices for gardens, schools, businesses, or community projects. Gifting a living tree is a wonderful way to commemorate births, weddings, graduations, birthdays, or memorial occasions.

Top Choices for Native Tree Gifts

Choosing the right native tree to gift can be as personal as the occasion itself. Here are some popular and meaningful options that thrive across Aotearoa:

Nestegis montana (Narrow-Leaved Maire): This elegant, slow-growing native is perfect for those passionate about conservation. Its dense foliage and tidy shape make it ideal for urban gardens.
Knightia excelsa: Known as rewarewa, this stately evergreen tree is beloved for its sleek leaves and striking red flowers that attract birds and pollinators.
Prumnopitys taxifolia (Matai): Mataī is a classic native timber tree that matures into a stately specimen, creating a living legacy for generations to come.
Laurelia novae-zelandiae: Also called pukatea, this fast-growing tree loves damp soils and adds lush, glossy foliage to any landscape.
While not a true native, Sorbus aucuparia Scarlet King (Rowan Tree NZ) offers vibrant berries and a graceful shape, making it a unique gift alongside native selections.

How to Present a Native Tree Gift

When you gift native trees, consider including a personalised note about the species and its meaning, as well as care instructions to help the recipient nurture their new tree. Many customers choose to have their gifted tree delivered in a decorative bag or ceramic pot, making it a ready-to-enjoy present for homes, offices, or school grounds.
