Why Choose Giant Hostas?

Giant hostas are prized for their spectacular size, vibrant colouring, and ability to thrive in the dappled light of woodland gardens. These robust perennials quickly form expansive clumps, with some varieties reaching well over a metre tall and wide. Their broad, textured leaves not only provide stunning visual interest but also suppress weeds and help retain soil moisture. Giant hostas are an excellent choice for covering bare ground, lining pathways, or anchoring perennial beds in difficult shady corners.

Our Range of Giant Hostas for Sale

At our nursery, we carefully curate a selection of giant hostas for sale that excel in New Zealand conditions. Whether you love bold blue-greens, creamy variegated patterns, or uniquely fragrant blooms, you’ll find the perfect hosta for your garden here. Alongside our gorgeous giant varieties, don’t miss out on other fantastic hostas such as Hosta Loyalist, loved for its crisp white-centred foliage, or Hosta Patriot with its wide creamy margins, ideal for a pop of contrast.

Tips for Growing Giant Hostas in New Zealand

Giant hostas are as easy to care for as they are striking. Plant them in well-drained, humus-rich soil and position where they receive morning sun and afternoon shade. Good moisture is key, especially during dry spells. Protect young plants from snails and slugs, and annually mulch with compost to encourage healthy, vigorous growth. Hostas are wonderfully versatile and pair beautifully with ferns, astilbes, and shade-loving hydrangeas. For fragrant and showy blooms, consider adding a variety like Hosta Aphrodite to your collection.

Complementary Hosta Varieties

Your garden will truly come alive when mixing different hosta cultivars. Alongside your giant hostas, explore standouts such as Hosta Minuteman, admired for its bold white-edged leaves, or the award-winning Hosta First Frost with striking blue foliage that brightens up shady spaces. Combining giants and medium-sized hostas creates a layered, naturalistic scheme in any garden design.
