Why Choose Magnolia 'Felix'?

Magnolia 'Felix' is the result of Felix Jury’s renowned breeding expertise. This variety was specifically selected for its large goblet-shaped flowers, which can reach 30cm across—among the largest in the magnolia world. The rich, saturated pink tones make this tree a true beacon in late winter and early spring. Unlike many other flowering trees, the Felix Jury magnolia’s blossoms emerge on bare branches, making their floral display even more dramatic.

Ideal for New Zealand gardens, the Felix Jury magnolia thrives in well-drained, slightly acidic soils and prefers a sunny or partially sheltered position. Not only does it produce an abundance of showy blooms, but it also offers glossy, deep-green leaves that provide year-round presence.

Planting and Care Tips

To help your Felix Jury magnolia tree for sale perform at its best, plant it in a sheltered position away from harsh winds. Incorporate ample compost into the planting hole and water thoroughly during dry periods, particularly during establishment and blooming. Mulch around the base to retain moisture and suppress weeds, but keep mulch clear of the trunk. Feed with a balanced, slow-release fertiliser in spring to encourage robust growth and prolific flowering.

Pruning needs are minimal. Simply remove any dead wood after flowering to maintain a tidy shape. With the right care, Magnolia 'Felix' will reward you with years of spectacular spring displays.

Companion Planting Ideas

Magnolias pair beautifully with a range of other specimen trees and shrubs. For contrasting flower shape and colour, consider planting alongside Magnolia stellata Waterlily or the deep burgundy blooms of Magnolia Genie. For fragrance and interest all season, Michelia 'Lemon Fragrant' makes an excellent companion.

If you prefer a lighter pink display, Magnolia Star Wars offers stunning star-shaped flowers, while Magnolia grandiflora Little Gem provides glossy evergreen foliage. For a truly unique combination, underplant with smaller ornamental trees like Prunus Kiku Shidare Zakura or Salix caprea pendula.

Magnolia lovers are spoilt for choice. Why not expand your collection with Magnolia DD Blanchard, an upright classic with creamy-white blooms, or experiment with foliage contrast using Meryta sinclairii 'Cream Edge'? For a touch of autumn colour, Acer palmatum 'Burgundy Lace' is a stunning addition.
