How to Grow and Use Evergreen Phormiums

Evergreen phormiums are superb for both beginners and experienced gardeners thanks to their low-maintenance nature. They prefer well-drained soils but tolerate a range of sites, including exposed, windy gardens and dry, sandy soils. Regular watering during the establishment period encourages healthy root growth, but established phormiums are remarkably drought-tolerant.

Use evergreen phormiums as striking specimen plants, textural companions in mixed borders, or even as living screens for privacy. Their bold shapes anchor contemporary designs and complement native plantings beautifully. Planting phormiums among pebbles, grasses, or beneath native trees creates a naturalistic yet structured look. Many gardeners also use phormiums in large containers to frame patios and entrances, where their sculptural presence shines year-round.

Bring Evergreen Structure to Your Garden

If you’re searching for distinctive, low-maintenance plants that look good every day of the year, evergreen phormiums are an unrivalled choice. Explore our range including Phormium 'Sundowner', Phormium 'Raspberry Ripple', Phormium 'Surfer', Phormium 'Rainbow Maiden', and Phormium 'Sunset Dreams' to find the perfect phormium for your next garden project.
