Eucalyptus Blue Ice (Gum)

“Blue Ice” is a variety of Eucalyptus grown for its colourful foliage. The leaves on juvenile trees are rounded, powdery-blue, and held densely. As the tree ages the leaves become grey-blue and the foliage is held less densely. This evergreen tree grows with an upright and open habit to about 20 m tall and 8 m wide though can be trimmed as necessary. It grows best when planted in full sun on a well-drained site but will grow on pretty much any soil, except extreme wet. It is also tolerant of cool climates, wind, moderate frost, and extended periods of dry. “Baby Blue” is commonly grown as a specimen, planted for shelter, or included in a mixed planting in a large garden. The foliage from juvenile trees is commonly used in floral arrangements. This is a very versatile and fantastic looking tree.

Why Add Eucalyptus Plants to Your Garden?

Eucalyptus plants are famous for their silver-green foliage, rapid growth, and versatility in the landscape. They make stunning specimen trees, windbreaks, and privacy screens, while their aromatic leaves are valued for floral arrangements, essential oils, and even home remedies. When you choose a eucalyptus plant for sale through our nursery, you invest in a resilient tree that thrives in New Zealand’s diverse climates.

Our Range of Eucalyptus Varieties

We offer an appealing selection of eucalyptus species, with something for every gardener and landscape designer. Looking for an elegant, small-scale gum with soft silver foliage? Eucalyptus cinerea (Argyle Apple) is a favourite for courtyards and cut foliage. If you’re drawn to compact, ornamental forms, consider Eucalyptus Baby Blue (Silver Gum), prized for its round, blue-grey leaves and tidy shape. For gardeners wanting a bold feature tree, Eucalyptus sideroxylon (Mugga) is noted for its dark foliage and striking bark, while Eucalyptus camaldulensis (River Red Gum) offers impressive size and adaptability to wetter sites.

Planting & Caring for Eucalyptus

Planting your new eucalyptus is straightforward. These trees prefer full sun and well-drained soils, but are remarkably adaptable once established. Eucalyptus plants generally have low water requirements and are tolerant of wind, making them a practical choice for coastal or exposed gardens. With regular watering while young and a layer of mulch, your tree will soon reward you with lush growth and resilience through both drought and wet seasons.

Great Partners and Presentation

Pairing your new eucalyptus with a stylish container can add instant impact to patios and entranceways. Consider the Medium Vienna Planter - Eucalyptus to showcase the elegant shape and colouring of juvenile foliage. Eucalyptus pairs well with native grasses, flowering perennials, and other drought-tolerant species.

Sure, Chamaemelum nobile (Chamomile) and Dianella 'Little Jess' are crowd-pleasers, but Prunus Pendula Rosea, Quercus cerris, and Zieria prostrata are quietly making a name for themselves.
