Why Choose Dianthus for Your Garden

Dianthus, often called pinks or carnations, are tough yet beautiful perennials. Their compact growth and continuous flowering make them ideal for all garden sizes, from large plots to patio pots. They’re renowned for their resilience, tolerating both heat and light frost, while providing an easy-care option for both beginner and experienced gardeners. Dianthus are also excellent for attracting pollinators like bees and butterflies, and their flowers are wonderful for cutting.

Discover vibrant options such as Dianthus Pinball Wizard with its striking, two-tone petals, or the elegant Dianthus Sunflor Love that’s perfect for containers and borders. For a cottage garden effect, Dianthus Coconut Sundae provides frilled, white blooms with a spicy scent, while Dianthus Cross Over offers unique, richly coloured flowers ideal for mass planting. For those seeking something extra special, Dianthus Sugar Plum Coral delivers eye-catching blooms that make exceptional cut flowers.

How to Care for Dianthus Plants

Caring for dianthus is simple and rewarding. Plant them in a sunny spot with well-drained soil—dianthus dislike overly wet roots, so raised beds or free-draining potting mix work well. Deadheading spent flowers encourages repeat blooms throughout the season and helps keep plants tidy. Clip back after the main flush of flowers to encourage fresh growth. Dianthus benefit from a light feed in spring and autumn, but otherwise, they’re low maintenance and drought-tolerant once established.
