The Daphne bholua plant, often referred to as the Nepalese paper plant or "evergreen daphne", is celebrated among New Zealand gardeners for its intoxicating winter fragrance and elegant clusters of pale pink to white flowers. Flowering in the coldest months, the Daphne bholua plant delivers much-needed garden colour and scent when most other shrubs are still dormant. Its graceful, semi-evergreen foliage and tidy, upright habit make it a perfect addition to both contemporary and traditional garden designs.
Nepalese Paper Plant
Daphne bholua, commonly known as the Nepalese Paper Plant, grows with a rounded shape and carries leathery, dark green leaves with highly fragrant, pink flowers in spring. This evergreen typically grows to 1.5 m tall and the same wide, and performs best when it is grown in full sun. Daphne bholua is commonly planted around outdoor living areas such as pools and the like, included in mixed and border plantings, maintained in a container, added to cottage gardens, or planted close to a window or door so the fragrance can fill the house.
