Why Choose Colourful Evergreen Trees?

Unlike deciduous trees that shed their leaves each autumn, evergreen trees retain foliage throughout the year, offering lushness and structure to your landscape across all seasons. What sets colourful evergreen trees apart is their ability to provide vivid shades of gold, red, burgundy, and variegated greens, adding visual interest no matter the weather. These trees are excellent for boundary planting, accent planting, or creating an inviting backdrop for your home.

Popular Colourful Evergreen Tree Varieties

When it comes to variety, gardeners are spoilt for choice. One stunning option is Agonis flexuosa After Dark, known for its unique dark burgundy to purple foliage that stands out brilliantly in mixed plantings. For a splash of lighter contrast, Ulmus carpinifolia Variegata (Field Elm) offers gorgeous variegated leaves with creamy white and green hues—perfect for brightening shady corners.

For gardeners looking for striking shapes and an impressive stature, Sequoiadendron giganteum (Sequoia gigantea Tree) combines evergreen presence with majestic form. While primarily celebrated for their grandeur, these evergreens contribute rich green colour throughout the year.

If you prefer compact, rounded trees, Robinia pseudoacacia Umbraculifera offers lush, bright green foliage atop a tidy globe-shaped crown, creating a stunning structured look in formal or informal settings. Pair this with evergreen shrubs like Azalea indica, which produces luminous flowers and glossy green leaves, for year-round layers of colour.

How to Style Colourful Evergreen Trees in Your Garden

When planting colourful evergreen trees, consider combining contrasting or complementary foliage colours to design dynamic outdoor spaces. Use darker-leaved varieties like Agonis flexuosa After Dark to set off lighter or variegated species such as Ulmus carpinifolia Variegata (Field Elm). Tall evergreens like Sequoiadendron giganteum (Sequoia gigantea Tree) work well as garden anchors, while smaller forms like Robinia pseudoacacia Umbraculifera can be used as feature specimens or to line pathways.

For prolonged seasonal interest, mix your evergreen trees with flowering underplantings such as Azalea indica, which bring bursts of colour in spring and ongoing lushness. Whether you have a small city property or a sprawling rural block, there is a colourful evergreen tree to suit your needs.

Growing and Caring for Colourful Evergreen Trees

Most colourful evergreen trees prefer well-drained soil and a sunny or partially shaded position. Regular mulching helps retain moisture and suppress weeds, while an annual feed in early spring encourages healthy growth and vibrant foliage. With a little planning, your garden will be alive with colour and structure all year long.

Enhance your landscape today with one—or several—of these outstanding, colourful evergreen trees and enjoy a beautiful garden in every season.
